Virgil Benjamin Teckemeier, 88, of Hermann, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Frene Valley Health Center.
Mr. Teckemeier was born in Hermann, Missouri on September 21, 1926, the son of the late Benjamin F. and Adela B. (Schmitt) Teckemeier.
Virgil enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1944. He served on the USS Clarence K. Bronson, a destroyer. He was honorably discharged in July 1946.
He was employed by the Corps of Engineers from 1947 until Jan. of 1975 when he retired. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Hermann, where he was also baptized and confirmed. He was also a member of the Hermann Masonic Lodge. Virgil enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, farming and working in his shop.
Virgil is survived by a sister Ruby Schroeder of Linn, by two nephews Jim Schaeffer & wife Lois of Hermann and Hal Schaeffer & wife Ava of St. Charles, by a niece Cathy Weber & husband Greg of Eureka, by a great nephew Torrey Slack & wife Marsha of Morrison and by 11 other great nieces & nephews and by two great-great nieces and one great-great nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents and a niece Susan Slack.
Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be at Hermann Cemetery with full military honors.
