To the Family of Rubin Haeberle, You have my deepest sympathy. Rubin was a very special person, and I always enjoyed visiting with him. He had such a wealth of knowledge about the history in the bottoms and I always enjoyed listening. Bob Hans

I'll never forget Rubin and his hospitality, nor his homemade wine, which may have been slightly overindulged while a youth on one of his locally famous "snake-hunt" hayrides. God bless his entire extended family, and take good care, Blondie.

Blonde, our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We regret not being there for the funeral. I have to tell you though your place will always go down in history as the only place to compare wine in full water glasses. I have two favorite memories of Rubin. First one was when Wilmer and Josie was on vacation and you called to help put cattle in. Speedy and I listened to Rubin on how to fix the fence in about 5 minutes and spent two hours sampling wine for repayment. Second one was when I made my first batch of blackberry wine and I came over to get some starter. He found out that I was only making a half barrel and instructed me that in this neighborhood we don't make half batches, add some water and a couple gallons of whiskey while she's cook'in and then you got a good batch. It was strongest batch I ever made.
We are thinking of you at this time.

My Dad Homer and Rubin were close friends, so I got to be around Rubin dozens of times, and continued my friendship with him after Dad passed. I always looked forward to being around Rubin because of his wit and sense of humor. Once, when I complained that the wine jug he gave me to drink out of was filthy dirty, he quickly replied "It's only filthy on the outside." Another time my brother Don and I were hunting on Rubin's property and our Dad's truck had a flat tire. We could not find the spare. Fortunately, Rubin came along. He delighted in razzing 2 college educated kids who couldn't find the spare tire. Don and I delighted in sitting under a shade tree drinking beer and watching Rubin change our tire in 95 degree summer heat.

Blondie, Josie, and Janet,
I wish to extend my sincerest sympathy to you. Can you imagine the joyous reunion of your dad and my dad when Rubin entered God's Kingdom? I'm sure quite the party was to be had. Remembering so many good times at your farm. And, yes, the wine. Back then, even the children were given a sample and no one ever thought twice about it. Treasure your memories. They will get you through the difficult days ahead. May God continue to bless you in all ways. Very fondly, Marcia Heberle-Bucker.
