Joseph A. Sterling, 83, of Hermann, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Hermann Area District Hospital. 

Joseph was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on June 19, 1933, a son of the late Elmer & Ethel (Phillips)  Sterling.

Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He was the husband of Doris Marie (Purcell) Sterling.   They were married on June 19, 1980, at Fenton, Missouri. Doris survives at the home.

Joseph is also survived by sons, Joseph Sterling, Jr, & Dennis Sterling, both of Dallas, Texas; Tony Sterling, of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and David Tipton, of Hermann, four daughters, Catherine Steffe & husband Gerald, of Wentzville, Missouri; Diana Castle & husband Dennis, of Moscow Mills, Missouri; Debbie Fegtly, of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Terri Techmeyer, of Dallas, Texas; by a sister, Viola McDonald, of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas,  17 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, by three brothers Leonard, Albert & Floyd and two sisters.

Joseph was a teacher at Harris Teacher College in St. Louis, Missouri for many years.  In his free time he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working in his shop and gardening.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 7th from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where funeral services will follow at Noon.  Memorials may be given to families choice.  C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
