Elmyra Tidwell, 85, of Hermann, MO, passed away Monday, October 3, 2016 at Frene Valley of Hermann Stonebridge,.

Elmyra was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 15, 1930, a daughter of the late Elmer & Alicia Schwarz.

Elmyra was the wife of Kenneth Tidwell.  They were married on March 10, 1951.  Kenneth survives at the home.

Elmyra is also survived by daughter Bronya Gumper and husband Stephen of Hermann, Missouri, and granddaughter Katherine Gumper; and daughter Bambi Lynn Stuart and husband Michael of St. Louis, Missouri, five grandchildren,  Kerry Whitaker, Tiffany Mitchell, Ryan Whitaker, Sarah Bacon and Timothy Bacon and five great grandchildren,  Joshua  & Hailey Stewart and Aaron, Madeline & Allison Mitchell all of St. Louis.

She is preceded in death by her parents Elmer & Alicia Schwarz, and her sisters Alicia Schwarz and Evelyn Johnston.

Elmyra was a champion roller skater in dance and figure skating with her husband Ken.  Elmyra and Ken judged skating competitions and taught roller skating classes to young children to share their love of skating.

Elmyra was an artisan, known best for her hand woven miniature tapestries, which won several national awards and were displayed in museums in a tour across America.  Elmyra was also a creative painter, seamstress, and doll maker.

Being an animal lover, Elmyra rescued several greyhounds and adopted stray dogs and cats.  She was an avid supporter of organizations that protected animals.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 5th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann.

Private graveside services will be held Thursday at Valhalla Cemetery, St. Louis.
