Wilma M. (Walkenhorst) Niewald

Wilma M. Niewald, 99, of New Haven, MO, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023 at New Haven Care Center, New Haven, Missouri.

Wilma was born in New Haven, Missouri on January 1, 1924, the daughter of the late Otto & Martha (Sievers) Walkenhorst.

She was united in marriage to Carl Oberdieck on October 10, 1942, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Port Hudson, Missouri.  Carl preceded her in death on June 12, 1983. 

She later married Martin W. Niewald on April 9, 1988 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Haven.  Martin preceded her in death on September 27, 2015.

Wilma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Haven, where she was also a member of the Ladies Aid. She worked for American Recreation Products for many years, where she held various positions but lastly she was drawing plans for tents.  

In her free time she enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Wilma is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Scheer & husband Larry of New Haven, Missouri; Linda Kaskadden & husband Kenneth, of Hermann, Missouri; and Katherine Weiser & husband Tim, of Rosebud, Missouri; a son, Dennis Oberdieck, Weldon Spring, Missouri, a step daughter, Dottie Niewald of Lexington, Kentucky, 10 grandchildren & spouses, 3 step granddaughters & spouses, 18 great grandchildren & 5 step grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Carl Oberdieck, her second husband, Martin Niewald, a daughter-in-law, Joyce Oberdieck, a sister Elda Vohs and a brother, Harold Walkenhorst

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 6th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Haven, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or New Haven Care Center.
