Wayne A. Hagedorn, 97, formerly of Hermann, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas where he lived for the last two years.
Wayne was born in Rhineland, Missouri, on March 9, 1924, the son of the late Albert J. & Irene H. (Leuenberger) Hagedorn.
He was united in marriage to Marcella Gaffney on September 4, 1948 at St. Paul's Church, Pinelawn, Missouri. They shared 65 wonderful years of marriage together. Marcella preceded him in death on May 31, 2014.
Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Navy and often told stories of his time in the South Pacific. He was a graduate of and played basketball for the University of Missouri and loved his Tigers. Wayne spent 35+ years with Uniroyal in sales management and lived in Kansas City, Omaha, and Chicago during that time. He retired to Hermann, Missouri in 1991 and became an active member of the Community. He was Mayor of Hermann from 1996 – 1998, was a long-term member of the Hermann Lion’s Club, a member of the Missouri Rail Passenger Advisory Committee for 10 years, and a member of St. George Church.
Wayne is survived by two daughters, Julie (Pat) Lehman, of Tampa, Florida and Diana Kidd, of Wichita, Kansas, a son, Stephen (Mary) Hagedorn, of Tucson, Arizona, grandchildren, Katie (Joe) Walker, Michael (Beth) Lehman, Nick Lehman, Laura (David) Mayans, Brett (Melody) Kidd, Erin (Jamie) Pierson and Matt Hagedorn, by great grandchildren, Riley, Patrick and Reagan Walker, Parker and Bennett Lehman, Gabriella and Daphne Mayans, Chloey and Faye Kidd, and a sister, Betty Ann Gerber, of Hermann, Missouri.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marcella Hagedorn, an infant daughter, Mary Rose Hagedorn, a brother, Denis Hagedorn and a sister, Beatrice Kuhn.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15th at 10:00 am at St. George Church, Hermann. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rhineland.
