Obituary

Timothy J. Strobel, 71, of New Haven, Mo., passed away Friday, February 10th, at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo.

Timothy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 6, 1951, a son of the late Mary Jean (Reeves) and Robert Strobel.  He attended New Haven High School in New Haven, Mo., followed by the University of Missouri in Columbia where he earned a Bachelor's degree.  He then furthered his education with a Master's degree at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. Tim’s long career as an educator included time as a high school basketball coach and elementary school principal in towns across Missouri (Hermitage, Leeton, Hardin, and Kingsville).  He eventually returned to New Haven, the town he loved the most, when he accepted the position of high school principal.  He held that position for 26 years until his retirement in 2013.  He was a devoted coach and educator who cherished his fellow teachers and students.

Tim enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching sports.  He especially loved Mizzou, the Kansas City Chiefs, and of course, the New Haven Shamrocks. He was happiest when he was outside, whether working in his garden picking the blackberries that he liked to gift to others, cleaning the cars, or just working out and staying physically active.  There was no one that he wouldn’t help, as many people in town can attest to.  He loved traveling with his wife and daughter, eating his wife’s cooking, watching sports and movies with his daughter, and listening to George Strait and talk radio.

Tim was joined in marriage to Mona J., née Menke, on May 3rd, 1969, in New Haven, Mo., a union spanning 53 years.  He was a man of many talents, but the job that he did the best was as father to their daughter, Kimberly.

Timothy is survived by his wife Mona and daughter Kimberly Sloop (and partner Paul Ansaldo), of Overland Park, Ks.; brother Chester Strobel and wife Pam of Dissen, Mo.; sister Nancy Strobel, of Pittsburg, Mo.; sister Lisa Waldo and husband Ed of Bonner Springs, Ks.; brother Keith Strobel of New Haven, Mo.;  and brother Bradley Strobel of Chamois, Mo; by his mother-in-law Lorene Menke of New Haven, Mo.; brother-in-law Duane Kemper and wife Carol of New Melle, Mo; sister-in-law Donna Kreftmeyer and husband Dan of New Haven, Mo.; brother-in-law Randy Menke and wife Phyllis of Berger, Mo.; brother-in-law Kirby Menke and wife Brenda of New Haven, Mo; and sister-in-law Teri Menke. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Julie Strobel, father-in-law Virgil Menke, and brother-in-law Wendy Menke.

Planned services are private, but a celebration of life for the public will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tim Strobel Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Citizens Bank, P.O. Box 197, New Haven, Mo. 63068
