Sidney Devlin Obituary

Sidney Arthur Devlin passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was 81 years old.

Sidney was born on August 12, 1944, near Starkenberg, Missouri, the fourth of eight sons born to the late Edward and Lucille (Overkamp) Devlin.

On February 12, 1972, he married Brenda Kay Johnson at Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City, Missouri. Together they shared 54 years of marriage and raised three children.

Sidney served in the Missouri National Guard for six years. He worked for his father-in-law at Clark Johnson Mining and Hauling for more than 50 years. After retiring, he continued working for six years at Missouri Mulch and later spent two years digging basements with his nephew, Steve Devlin.

Sidney and his family lived in New Florence, Missouri for more than 65 years.

Sidney never met a stranger. He could talk with anyone and had a way of engaging a room with his stories and conversation. He loved spending time at the family farm, enjoying meals with family and friends, working in the garden, attending his grandchildren’s games and events, feeding squirrels, birds, and other small animals, and taking drives with his beloved wife, Brenda.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Brenda Devlin; his children, Jonathan Devlin and wife Christina of O’Fallon, Missouri, daughter-in-law Shannon Devlin of Columbia, Missouri, and Joshua Devlin and wife Mercedes of Wentzville, Missouri.

He was a very proud papa to his grandchildren: Bailey (Devlin) Widel and husband Aron, Gabriel Devlin, Avery Devlin, Morgan Devlin, Paxton Devlin, Jordan Devlin, Tristan Devlin, Sidney Devlin, and great-granddaughter Nora Widel. He loved seeing them and gave each of them a gold dollar every time they visited.

He is also survived by five sisters-in-law: Ruth Devlin of New Florence, Missouri, Liz Devlin of New Florence, Missouri, Donna Devlin of Montgomery City, Missouri, Connie Brower and husband Kelly of St. Louis, Missouri, and Linda Devlin of House Springs, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law Gale and Michele Johnson of New Florence, Missouri; and many nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lucille Devlin; his son, Jason Devlin; his brothers Kenneth Devlin, Larry Devlin, Dennis Devlin, Ronnie Devlin, Russell Devlin, Gene Devlin, and Glen Devlin; sisters-in-law Patricia Devlin and Kathy Devlin; and brother-in-law Roger Johnson.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 p.m. at New Florence Cemetery, with Pastor Darrel Deeker officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to Grow to Gather or New Florence Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to join us for a celebration of life from 2-4 pm at Grow to Gather (493 Booneslick Rd, New Florence, MO 63363) following the service.
