Shirley Emma Von Behren Oberg, age 80, passed on Nov 6, at her home in Ft. Walton Beach, Fl after a prolonged battle against lymphoma.
She was born on 9 Jan, 1941 in Hermann, Mo. to her proud parents Stella and Leslie Von Behren.
She married her husband, Curtis Oberg in Mar, 1959, in Hermann, Mo. and soon became a worldwide traveler, following her husband in his assignments as an Air Force member and later as a Field Service Engineer for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing aircraft. They lived 3 years in Japan, 2 years in Texas where their only son, Michael was born, 2 years on the island of Okinawa, 1 year in Alamogordo, New Mexico, 2 years in Tampa, Fl, 2 years in the Netherlands, 4 years in Tehran, Iran, 4 years in Phoenix, Az and the last 40+ years at her final destination in Fort Walton Beach, Fl.
She was the perfect wife for the nomadic lifestyle, thoroughly enjoying living abroad, learning local cultures and joining in with local customs. She was an accomplished artist and after learning the art of flower arrangement while living in Japan, she became a professional flower arranger in later years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Curt Oberg, her son Michael Oberg & wife Yvonne, and finally, her grandson, rock and roller Conrad Oberg. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, preceded in death by both parents, and her brother, Larry. She was her husband’s loving soulmate and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Words cannot describe our grief at losing her. No memorial service is planned at this time
