Sharon Kay Weber of Hermann, Missouri, formerly of Fulton, passed away on February 1, 2022 at Hermann Area District Hospital after a brief illness caused by a cascade of unfortunate medical events, with her family by her side, and the caring staff of the hospital providing both her and the family sensitive and compassionate care in a no win situation.
She was born December 9,1945 to Thelma (Lederle) and Leonard Abersold in St. Joseph, Missouri. Sharon lived in St Joseph, and was active in the United Church of Christ and 4-H while growing up. Following high school at Central High, she attended the University of Iowa to get her K-12 teaching degree after ambitions of being a speech teacher didn’t pan out.
After graduation, her first job was teaching special education students in Niles, Michigan, a position she held for two years until leaving after the MLK riots She then moved to Galesburg Illinois and taught 3rd grade and served as school librarian at Farnham School in Galesburg District 205 for ten years. During her time in Galesburg, she had two daughters, Aimee, who she tried to give a better chance through adoption, and who she has recently been getting to know, and Leeanna.
She married Russ Cadwell in February 1973, and became a bonus mother to his two children. Following a divorce from Russ, she moved between Columbia and Fulton Missouri. While in Missouri, Sharon worked a number of positions, from various daycare centers as a teacher, to Missouri Book Services as a picker/auditor and SERVE as a receptionist before her retirement. She married Edmund Weber in an intimate ceremony at United Church of Christ in Fulton Missouri, in October 1988, becoming a bonus mother to his children as well. He preceded her in death several years later.
Sharon was a loving mother, always doing the best she could, with what she could to provide for and support a sometimes rebellious and headstrong child as a single parent, as well as doing what she could to support her bonus children. She was always there when she was needed without question or judgment. She played a huge part in the upbringing of the grandchildren she adored, living with them in a multi-generational household for most of their lives. She was a willing participant in random driving adventures, chauffeuring the kids to various events and treat runs. She loved books and reading, particularly non- fiction and murder mysteries. Sharon also asking questions, sometimes being perceived as nosy, and doing research on random topics, particularly after becoming housebound due to health issues. She was the type of person who could know the life history of the Wal-Mart cashier in the course of a ten minutes or less chat, and she loved to chat with everyone. She was also blessed with German stubbornness and cantankerousness at times, wanting things her way only at times, increasing the diplomatic or blunt vocabularies of those around her. She loved surfing the ‘Net with her tablet and Google Voice due to the arthritis in her hands, catching up on world events and following her curiosity by clicking random links to the chagrin of those who had to navigate her out of them.
Though unable to be with her as much as they would have liked due to the risk of COVID once she relocated to a nursing facility in Hermann, most of her immediate family was fortunate enough to be able to gather with her near the end, and are grateful for having been blessed with both her presence in our lives, and her relatively gentle passing.
She is survived by her daughters, Aimee Mitchell-Bigelow(Mark) , and Leanna Stupperich , seven grandchildren, Cam, Caitlin, Bridgit, Connor, Kyleigh, Audrey, and Kevin, granddaughter in law, Megan Stupperich, bonus children Cindy Comins , Rich Cadwell, Paul Weber, Shayla Ratte, Joan Neighbors and their children, a great grandson, Sebastian Stupperich and several cousins.
In order to comply with her wishes to be with Edmund in Jefferson City National Cemetery, she requested a direct cremation with little fuss. Graveside services will be held Monday, March 28th at 12:30 p.m. at Jefferson City National Cemetery.
Donations are requested in lieu of flowers. For cash donations, they can be sent to the family care of Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann Missouri, which in keeping with her belief in education will be used to establish a 529 college fund for Sebastian, or alternately you can donate funds to your local school district libraries with the specification to either buy books for the library or to go to a scholarship fund for books for the kids who are unable to purchase them from the Scholastic book fairs for those schools with that program.
