Severian "Sib" H. Elsenraat

Severian "Sib" H. Elsenraat, 88, of Rhineland, MO, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Harry S.  Truman VA Hospital, Columbia, Missouri. 
 
Sib was born in Rhineland, Missouri on January 8, 1932, the son of the late Paul & Olivia (Hagedorn) Elsenraat.
 
He was the husband of Mary Alice (Berend) Elsenraat.   They were united in marriage on July 3, 1954, at St. George Church, Hermann, MO. 
 
Sib proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was recognized for over 50 years of service and dedication to the Village of Rhineland for serving on the board of Aldermen and as Mayor, from 1964-2017. He helped establish the Rhineland Volunteer Fire Department, serving on its board and was also an active fireman. Sib served on the board of directors at Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. for over 40 years. Sib worked for the Special Road District for many years. He put in many hours working on Rhineland's park to make a great place for the kids. 

In his younger years Sib was a member of the local corkball team. He was a farmer all of his life who enjoyed spending his free time at Grandpa's farm with his kids and grandchildren. Sib enjoyed taking his wife, of 66 years, on a Sunday drive and picking up dinner along the way.  
 
Sib was a member of Church of the Risen Savior and the American Legion, both of Rhineland.
 
Sib is survived by his wife Mary Alice Elsenraat, of the home; a son, Anthony Elsenraat, of Rhineland; a son, Leonard Elsenraat & wife Jeanne, of Hermann; a daughter, Alicia Winkelmann & husband Howard, of Hermann; a son, Daryl Elsenraat & wife Kim, of St. Paul, Missouri; a daughter, Christina Massman & husband Matt, of Jefferson City, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Elsenraat, of Rhineland, Missouri, nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, by a sister, Ruth Ann Speckhals, of Hermann, Missouri; a brother, Harold Elsenraat & wife Jennifer, of Rhineland; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Strassner, of Hermann.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bernard Elsenraat, a sister, Imogene Strassner, two brothers, Cyril & Eugene Elsenraat, in infancy and a brother-in-law, Melvin Speckhals.
 
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 8th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, Rhineland, Missouri, where a funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Monsignor Gregory Higley officiating. 
 
Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rhineland, Missouri.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Rhineland Park or St. Joseph Cemetery.  C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
