Roy V. Nolting, 86, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on October 8, 2024.
Roy was born in Hope, Missouri to George and Viola (Schollmeyer) Nolting. His sister, Ruby Macksey preceded his death. He is survived by wife, Carol; daughter Natalie (Jack) Wallin of Westmont, IL.; grandchildren Victoria Wallin (Daniel Dwyer) and Grant Wallin; sisters-in-law Ethel (Ardyth) Blaise of Fayette, MO; Ruth (Larry) Hauser of Big Spring, MO; many nieces and nephews.
Roy was married on July 20, 1957 to Carol Schneider in a double ceremony with Carol’s sister, Ethel and Edward M. Dougherty (deceased).
Reared in rural Pershing, MO; Roy was a graduate of Hermann High School in 1955. After high school, he attended Jefferson City Junior College and Lincoln University.
After high school graduation Roy worked briefly at both Hawthorn Manufacturing in New Haven, MO and International Shoe Company, Hermann, MO. But he considered being introduced to the shoe business while attending college in Jefferson City and accepting a job at Tweedie Shoe Company. After several years at Tweedie and short tenure at two other shoe companies in St. Louis, in 1965 his prior experience took him to the women’s division of Florsheim Shoe Company. In 1975 Florsheim offices were moved to Chicago where Roy and his family have lived to date. In 1978, Florsheim closed the women’s division and all design and manufacturing were then dedicated to Florsheim shoes for men.
The last 20 years of Roy’s employment at Florsheim were devoted to international travel as Vice President of International Procurement. His work took him to all parts of the world, including most of Europe, Central and South America, China, India and other countries. Roy retired in 2002 when Florsheim was sold and all business transferred to Milwaukee, WI.
Roy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Wilmette, IL since 1983. Although a Chicago resident, Roy remained a loyal St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 27th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where memorial services will follow at 2:00 p.m.
