Richard Day Obituary

Richard A. Day, 70, of Monon, Indiana, passed away at 8:35 am, Friday, October 15, 2021 at I U Health White Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 13, 1951 in Indianapolis to the late Jacob and Virginia Day.  On June 20, 1997 he married the former Cynthia (Reese) Shrum in Avon, Indiana and she survives.

He was a 1969 graduate of Franklin High School in Acton where he played football and wrestled.  He served in the United States Navy during Vietnam on the U.S.S.Lexington Aircraft Carrier as a helmsman.  He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the family owned business, Jacob Day Excavating and was a member of the Local 103 Operating Engineers.  His family owned Jacob Day Excavating in Indianapolis for over fifty years.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, being a handyman, and golf.  He won first place at the Walmart Charity Golf Tournament in Indianapolis.  He also enjoyed campfires and spending time with friends and family, especially, his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Cynthia of Monon surviving are his children, Eric (Kari) Shrum, Ryan (Jolie) Day, Adam (Destiny) Day, and Amber Day; sister, Donna Stephens; grandchildren, Eleaseh Korman, Joshua Heriford, Sameul Dotson and nine additional grandchildren; and great grandchildren, Kamyrnn, Eryn, Rylan, Josephine, Brandon and Mikey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Virginia Day; and son, Brandon Day.

Graveside services will be in Saturday, October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Loutre Island Cemetery, McKittrick, with full military honors.
