Nancy K. (Ortner) Tobin

Nancy Karen Ortner Tobin was born on February 6, 1943 and passed away on May 8, 2023. 

She was born in Carroll, Iowa to Fred and Elizabeth Ortner, the youngest of six children and the only daughter. She graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1961 and went on to attend Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduating in 1965. 

Nancy and Francis (Frank) Tobin were united in marriage on June 11, 1966 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. Nancy and Frank moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1966 and made their home in Hermann, Missouri in June 1975.  She served the community teaching in Hermann schools for more than 31 years, substitute teaching after retiring.

Nancy loved reading and would read several books each month, she also loved Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She especially loved watching her granddaughters grow into beautiful successful young women.  

Nancy was preceded in death by her brothers Lyle, Bill and Neil.  She is survived by her husband of 55+ years, Frank, her children Bridget (James) Davis of O’Fallon, Missouri, Tom of Fenton, Missouri, Patrick of Fenton, Missouri, and her grandchildren Emily Davis of Richmond Heights, Missouri, Alyson Davis of Norman, Oklahoma, Samantha Davis of O’Fallon, Missouri and her brothers, Dale Ortner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Tom (Donna) Ortner of Knoxville, Tennessee.

A memorial mass will be held Thursday, May 18th at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Church, Hermann.  Memorial donations may be given to St. George Church of Promedica Hospice.
