Melva E. Sheldon, age 83 of Hermann went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2020 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Melva was born January 8, 1937 in the Chamois area to the late John Ishmael Kronk and Kathryn Jean (Howard) Kronk.
Melva was a preacher’s kid and therefore attended schools throughout Missouri including Osage Co R-1, Chamois.
On September 23, 1995 she was united in marriage to Sam Sheldon, who survives at the home.
Melva was a cosmetologist owning and operating beauty shops in the Chamois and Hermann areas. She later worked at Sally’s Beauty Supply in Jefferson City and Loutre Market in the Hermann area. She was an active member in the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Hermann. Melva was also a member of the Hermann VFW Auxiliary.
After retiring Melva found joy in caring for her home and family. She loved the time she could spend visiting with family and friends. Flower gardening, sewing and putting jigsaw puzzles together also gave her great satisfaction.
In addition to her husband Sam, Melva is survived by her three children: Rhonda Nichols Mitchem (Delmar) of Chamois, Sherri Nichols Holtgrewe of Jefferson City, and Eric Nichols (Susan) of Portland, MO; three Grandchildren, Heather Northway (Scott), Shauna Holtgrewe, and Molly Nichols; and four Great Grandchildren: Tanner Mitchem, Bailey Northway, Landen Northway and Zacchaeus Holtgrewe. Melva is also survived by her two sisters Carole Stewart and Charlotte Schaperclaus. Treasured family pet, Bingo, also survives of the home.
In addition to her parents, Melva was preceded in death by grandson, Ryan Mitchem.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 12th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Portland, MO.
