Marylin Eva Smith, 99, of Hermann, MO, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at her home.
Marylin was born in Pershing, Missouri on October 18, 1921, the daughter of the late Howard & Lottie (Wood) Workman.
Marylin was united in marriage to Carvel T. Shaw, M.D. on September 30, 1944. To this union three children were born, James, Linda and Timothy. Carvel preceded her in death on November 23, 1967. Marylin later married Ralph O. Smith, M.D. They were married in Hermann, Missouri on January 3, 1976. Ralph preceded her in death.
Marylin is survived by a daughter, Linda Shaw, M.D.,M.S.S.W. & husband Robert Hughes, a son, Timothy Shaw, M.D. & wife Diana, a daughter-in-law, Kris Shaw, step children, Eric, Joel & J. Bryan Smith and Susan Long and Shari Smith, by nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Julie Workman, numerous step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard & Lottie Workman, her first husband, Carvel T. Shaw M.D., her second husband, Ralph O. Smith, M.D., a son, James T. Shaw, M.D., a sister, Leta Doll Schmitt and an infant sister, Lorene Workman and a brother, George M. Workman, M.D.
Marylin was a member of Hermann United Methodist Church, where she was active in the choir and as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also participated as a church board member. She served as a Brownie Scout leader and later a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the Riverview Chapter Order of Eastern Star #315 for more than 50 years. She also had been a member of the Red Hat Society and the local DYOT Club.
Marylin received her BS in nursing from the Washington University School of Nursing and became certified as a RN. She worked at the Workman/Shaw Clinic/Hospital on Washington St., in Hermann. She later worked as a school nurse in the Hermann area and in the late 60's as the operating room manager at Hermann Area District Hospital.
She was dedicated to friends and family and kept track of birthdays of every family member for many years.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 28th from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Hermann United Methodist Church, Hermann, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. John Hampton officiating.
