Mary Alice Borcherding, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 11, 2022.
Mary was born in New Haven, Missouri on March 22, 1936, the daughter of the late Chester & Oma (Pope) Nichols.
Mary had many vocations, as she put taking care of her family as her top priority. She was most recognized in the community as a beautician and salon owner. She retired from the New Haven Care Center where she was a CNA and the center’s house beautician. Even while working and on into retirement, she found her hands busy crocheting, quilting and making beautiful gifts for family and friends. Even in the last years as her eyesight has dimmed, she continued to learn methods to crochet baby gifts for her great grandchildren and just finished one for her first great-great grandchild due in September. In her niece’s words, “She NEVER forgot a birthday, never said a mean word about anyone, unbelievably talented and funny”. Mary treasured her lifelong friends, loved her New Haven community and until recently was an active quilter at St. Peter’s UCC where she was a member.
Mary is survived by two sons, Robert Borcherding & wife Peggy, of Gerald, Missouri and Eric Borcherding & wife Gina, of New Haven, Missouri; two daughters, Luann Eikermann & husband Gary, of Branson, Missouri and Cynthia Schaefer & husband Tom, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, by 15 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren, a nephew and a niece and their families, all whom she was extremely proud of.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Chester Junior Nichols, a sister, Charlotte Slater and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at New Haven Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to New Haven Community Outreach Friendship Plate Dinner or the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired, both organizations have been a great blessing to her.
