Leroy Carl Diekmann, 88, of Hermann, MO, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023 at Hermann Area District Hospital, Hermann, Missouri
Leroy was born in Stony Hill, Missouri on January 3, 1935, the son of the late Charles & Elsie (Rohlfing) Diekmann.
He was married to Dolores Koester on December 26, 1955, at Stony Hill, Missouri. Dolores preceded him in death on April 4, 2015.
Leroy taught his family a very strong work ethic. His working career started at age 14 helping area farmers. He started his career as an electrician under the mentorship of Ralph Grannemann at Grannemann Electric. When Ralph passed away, Leroy started his own electrical business called Diekmann Electric which he worked at his entire life. In addition to being an electrician, Leroy was also a farmer and raised hogs, cattle, hay, and grain crops.
Leroy was a member of St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill, Missouri. He was on the Gasconade County Fair Board and served as the fair electrician for many years. He was on the Gasconade County Soil & Water Conservation Board, where he served as chairman for many years and was also a board member of Drake Beemont Mutual Insurance Company.
Leroy is survived by four daughters, Connie Doerr & husband Jeffery, of Hermann, Missouri; Ruth Vance & husband Norman, of Hermann, Missouri; Denise Epple & husband Dennis, of Hermann, Missouri; and Sharon Gambill, of Washington, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Doerr & wife Lori, of Gerald, Missouri; Craig Doerr, of Owensville, Missouri; Peter Vance & wife Samantha, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Kayla Martin & husband Andrew, of Neillsville, Wisconsin; Matthew Vance & wife Cheyanne, of Stoughton, Wisconsin; Amanda Koelling, of Hermann, Missouri; David Biles, of Owensville, Missouri; Ryan Biles, of Darby, Montana; and Blake Weber, of San Diego, California; and by nine great grandchildren, Chayse & Christian Doerr, Kinsey, Madison and Raegan Doerr, Greyson Doerr, Edward & Leroy Martin and Kylee Koelling. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a grandson, Christopher Doerr.
In his free time Leroy enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening and baking cookies to give away to others. Leroy didn't know a stranger, he enjoyed making conversation with people. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 20th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Evangelical Church, Stony Hill, Missouri, with Rev. Tom Lloyd officiating.
Burial will be at St. James Cemetery, Stony Hill, Missouri. Memorials may be given to St. James Cemetery, Owensville Senior Center or New Haven Senior Center.
