Leona M. Schaefer-Meyer, 95, of Hermann, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Boone Hospital, Columbia, Missouri.
Leona was born in Norborne, Missouri on April 19, 1925, the daughter of the late Theodore and Selma (Lefholz) Krattli.
Leona was united in marriage to Hellmuth "Monk" Schaefer on April 16, 1947, in Hermann, Missouri. To this union two children were born, Richard and Carolyn. Hellmuth preceded her in death on August 4, 1991. She later married Glenn P. Meyer on August 22, 1995 at St. Marcus Church, Rhineland, Missouri. Glenn also preceded her in death on October 24, 2010.
Leona worked for both International and Florsheim Shoe Companies for 24 years. After working at the shoe factories she went to work for 10 years as the secretary for Two-Rivers Sand and Gravel Company, a company which she and her husband Hellmuth Schaefer owned together in Hermann.
Leona was a former member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Hermann; a former member of St. Marcus Church, Rhineland; a former member of the Rhineland Wurstjaegers and a former member of the Hermann V.F.W. Auxiliary 4182 and the Hermann Eagles Auxiliary 1328. She also had been a member of the local DYOT Club.
Leona is survived by a son, Richard Hellmuth Schaefer and wife Mona, of Hermann, Missouri; a daughter, Carolyn Ann Schaefer and her husband Jim McQuitty, of Columbia, Missouri; a stepdaughter, Glenda Noltensmeyer and husband John, of Rhineland, Missouri; a stepson, Steve Meyer and wife Karen, of Berger, Missouri; a granddaughter, Lauren Marie Schaefer, Ph.D., of Fargo, ND; three (3) nephews; five (5) nieces; six (6) stepgrandchildren, and ten (10) stepgreatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Hellmuth "Monk" Schaefer, her second husband, Glenn Meyer, a brother Milton Krattli and a sister Edna Mae Hagedorn.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 14th at Oak Haven Memorial Gardens, Hermann, Missouri, with Rev. Darrel Deeker officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Oak Haven Memorial Gardens, the VFW Auxiliary 4182 of Hermann or the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
