LaVerta Elenor Schulte, 98, of Aiken, South Carolina, formerly of Washington, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at The Hills at Cumberland Village, Aiken, South Carolina.
LaVerta was born in Stolpe, Missouri on September 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Edward & Ella (Eikermann) Bickmeyer.
She was united in marriage to Bernice "Bud" Schulte on September 19, 1948, at St. Paul's Evangelical & Reformed Church, Hermann.
LaVerta was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, in Washington, Missouri since 1968. She started working during WWII at the age of 16 at Florsheim Shoe Company in Hermann and was employed there until the factory closed in 1988. She then worked at Magnet Group in Washington from 1989 until she retired in 2007.
LaVerta enjoyed gardening, especially roses, and baking, especially sugar cookies and coffee cake. She also enjoyed needlework, crafting, building dollhouses for her four granddaughters, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
LaVerta is survived by a son, Steven Schulte (Teresa) of Overland Park, Kansas; a daughter, Janis Arnold (Trent) of Aiken, South Carolina; a sister, Elladean Van Booven (Denis) of O'Fallon, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, five grandchildren, Jennifer Salzman (Jake) of Olathe, Kansas; John Schulte (Jennifer) of Spring Hill, Kansas; Courtney Gregory (Paul) of Columbia, South Carolina; Lauren Rosenberg (Erik), of New York, New York; and Sarah Erisman (Jacob) of Aiken, South Carolina; 11 great grandchildren, Austin, Parker, Ella, Anderson, Caroline, Georgia, Margaret, Anna Catherine, Isidore, Simon, and Oliver and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 28th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at St John's United Church of Christ, Stolpe, Missouri, where funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Darrel Deeker officiating.
Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Stolpe. Memorials may be given to the cemetery.
