John "Tom" Shabel

John "Tom"  Shabel, 74, of Hermann, MO, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023 at his home.
 
Tom was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 10, 1948, the son of the late Jack & Dorothy (McWilliams) Shabel.
 
He was the husband of Tina (Boyd) Shabel.  They were united in marriage on June 27, 1990, at Las Vegas, Nevada. 
 
Tom proudly served his country  in the United States Marines.  He served in the 1st Battalion,  27th Marine. He is published To the Sound of the Guns in Vietnam in 1968. He was awarded two Purple Hearts.
 
He was the president and owner of Great American Bottle Works Company.  After retirement he and his wife were the owners of Great American Flags & Flag Poles in Hermann.
 
Tom was a member of the Hermann Eagles, he was the former mayor of Hermann and the first member of Hogs Head Cigar Bar.  He was an avid hunter and enjoyed Alaskan Fishing.
 
Tom is survived by his wife, Tina Shabel, of Hermann, Missouri; a son, Michael Pfeiffer & wife Carly, of Argyle, Texas; a sister, Sarah Shabel, of Iowa. a brother, Dan Shabel & wife Deb, of Ballwin, Missouri; and many loved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kathy and Jean Warblik.
 
A celebration of life service with family and friends will be held Saturday, January 28th from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Eagle Hall, Hermann, Missouri.
