John A. Armstrong, 90, formerly of Hermann, MO, died on December 1st in Raymore, Missouri.  He was born on October 7, 1931, on the family farm located east of McKittrick, MO.  He was the fourth son of Joseph and Augusta Armstrong.

John attended grade school in McKittrick and High School in Hermann graduating in May of 1949.  He was a member of the Hermann High School FFA Champion Dairy Judging Team.  In 1952 he left the family farm to enlist in the United States Coast Guard, serving his country through the Korean War.

After receiving his honorable discharge, he used his G.I. Bill Benefits to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia.  At the University he met his future wife Frances Street, upon graduation they were married and returned to the family farm.  In 1964 with a growing family, he embarked on a banking career.  He was a member of the Missouri Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and served as their president in 1970.  He was also a member of Kiwanis Club, American Legion, and Lions.  He was a chapter advisor to FFA and a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Boonville along with being a long time member of the Missouri Historical Society.  In their 59 years of marriage John & Frances lived in Hermann, Chillicothe, Boonville and Orrick, Missouri before ultimately retiring in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.

John was an avid gardener, amateur historian and boating enthusiast.  He loved reading first hand accounts of American History specifically the exploration and development of the Midwest.  In 2012 he travelled to the ancestral homeland of Scotland, and while he enjoyed the history, the people he met, the food and the landscape, after two weeks he was happy to return home to Missouri.  He loved his family and found great happiness in watching it grow.

John is preceded in death by his wife Frances, his parents Joseph & Augusta, his brothers Gilpin of Reed Spring, MO, Joseph of Hermann; MO, and Allen of La Jolla, CA and his nephew William of Hermann, MO.  He is survived by his three sons, John H.
