JoAnn Kuschel Obituary

JoAnn M. Kuschel, 82, of Washington, MO, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025 at The Arbors, Washington, Missouri.

JoAnn was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 13, 1943, the daughter of the late Harold H. & Agnes M. (Schaumberg) Meyer.

She was the wife of Bernell Kuschel.  They were united in marriage on March 12, 1961, at United Church of Christ, Jefferson City, MO.

JoAnn worked as an manager for Boeuf & Berger Mutual Insurance Company for 45 years, until she retired at the age of 70.  She was a member and served in leadership roles in both NAMIC (National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies) and MAMIC (Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Companies).  She was also a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in New Haven where she served as a Sunday School Superintendent for many years, was a Sunday School Teacher, and member of the Triple F Group, Church Council, and also sang in the church choir.

JoAnn loved to shop with her sisters, daughters, and granddaughters - she was the ultimate bargain hunter.  She also enjoyed entertaining, hosting large family dinners, and was an excellent cook!  She could make anything from what Bernell planted and raised in the garden.  JoAnn had a passion for travelling...beach vacations were her happy place.  Like Bernell, she was a wonderful gardener and loved to work outside planting flowers in her flower beds and flower pots, a gift she passed on to her children.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Bernell Kuschel, of Washington, Missouri; a daughter, Janette Slocum & husband Terry, of Berger, Missouri; a daughter, Jane Fries & husband Christopher, of New Haven, Missouri; a son David Kuschel & wife Michelle, of Maryville, Illinois; a son, Craig Kuschel, of New Haven, Missouri; a daughter, Kristin Weidle & husband Mark, of New Haven, Missouri; a daughter, Deneke Bakalar & husband Kenneth, of Wentzville, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two sisters, Gerry Urban & husband Tim, of Washington, Missouri; and Jeanne Meyer & husband Keith Chrostowski, of Kansas City, Missouri.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 5th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven, where funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m., with her nephew, Rev. Brad Urban, officiating.

Burial will be at New Haven Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to St. Peter's United Church of Christ.
