JoAnn D. Kothbauer, 84, of Hermann, MO, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at StoneBridge Senior Living, Hermann, MO.
JoAnn was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on August 4, 1939, the daughter of the late George & Betty (Morehouse) Weisbeck.
She was the widow of Harold Kothbauer. They were united in marriage on September 11, 1980.
JoAnn is survived by a son, Ronald (Bernice) Behlke, of West Bend, Wisconsin; a daughter, JoAnn (Phillip) Behlke Dunk, of Wright City, Missouri; brother, George (Janet) Weisbeck, Jr., of De Pere, Wisconsin; a sister, Teresa Lovelace, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a brother, Michael Weisbeck, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Amber Weisbeck, of Donaphin, Missouri; four grandchildren, Caleb Dunk, Paige Dunk-Thomas, David Behlke and Sarah Behlke; and five nieces and nephews, George, T.J., Kathryn, Natasha, and Alyssa; and three step children, Dennis Kothbauer, of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, Mark Kothbauer, of Sturtevant, Wisconsin, and Roni Kothbauer Leonhardt, of Sparta, Wisconsin; and many step grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Richard Weisbeck, an infant step son, Mathew Kothbauer, a step daughter-in-law Sue Kothbauer, and a nephew John Weisbeck.
Upon retirement, JoAnn and Harold enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States. They moved from Wisconsin to their beloved Ozarks. In Theodosia Missouri, they cleared extensive mountain top acreage, creating stellar home views. They would later move to the Branson Area.
JoAnn and her husband came to faith in Christ and were baptized in the spring fed “Baptism Hole,” near Theodosia.
JoAnn’s adventurous spirit sparked explorations on mountain back roads in their Jeep. She delighted in sharing the Ozarks with many visitors, young and old, day tripping to secret hideouts.
Her innate decorating skills gave everyone sanctuary, where they were surrounded by warmth and outstanding home cooking. Her personality was marked by love for family, giving, being thrift, playful pranks, singing, music, and personalized kindness. Her compassion towards animals gave a home to countless strays.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
