James D. Anderson, 73, of Centertown, MO, formerly of Hermann, MO, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, September 25, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born in Washington, MO May 20,1952 to Eugene and Beulah (Hoemeyer) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near New Haven.
Jim grew up in New Haven, MO and graduated from New Haven High in 1970. He was the municipal pool manager and taught Red Cross lifesaving classes. He also was a photographer for the New Haven Leader.
Jim graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in photojournalism. His first job was editor of the Versailles Leader-Statesman and was a founding member of the Morgan County Rescue Squad.
In 1981 he purchased the Advertiser Courier newspaper in Hermann, MO and owned Graf Printing Co.
Jim served on the Missouri Press Association board of directors and was president of the Central Missouri Press group and president of the Missouri Advertising Managers Association. He was a dedicated member of the Mizzou Alumni Association. He also was instrumental in the establishment of the Hermann Riverfront Park.
He enjoyed quail and duck hunting as well as crappie and trout fishing. In addition to hunting and fishing, he enjoyed traveling, especially to the city of New Orleans. He was honored to accompany his father on an Honor Flight of World War II veterans to visit the memorial in Washington DC.
After retiring, he moved to the family farm in Centertown, where they raised polled Herford cattle, chickens, and enjoyed spending time in his garden.
He is survived by three children, Brent (Nicole) of Bentonville, AR, Greg (Angela) of Noblesville, IN and Susan Quick (Kyle) of New Haven, MO; seven grandchildren, Eva, Madeline, Jack, Amelia, Henry and Eddie Anderson, and Rosemary Quick; a brother, Tom (Pat) Anderson of New Haven and niece Sara (Mike) Unnerstall; and Carol Kase Anderson, the mother of his children. He is also survived by Joyce Davis, a long-time companion and confidant and her children Justin and Dylan (Kelsey) Pfautsch.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven.
A private burial will be held at the New Haven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to New Haven Care Center.
