Mr. James O. Overkamp of Effingham IL, passed away Sunday, September 10th, 2023. He was born on August 9th, 1944 in Mexico, MO to the late Frank and Helen (Korman) Overkamp. Jim had reached the age of 79 years.
Jim grew up and lived in Jonesburg, MO until 1997. He then moved to Effingham, IL. He worked most of his life as a truck driver, retiring from Cassens Transport, member of Teamsters Local 604. He was also an owner of Overkamp Trucking, LLC, where he drove as an owner operator during months of layoff.
When Jim wasn’t driving a truck or hauling cars, he loved spending time with his family, taking yearly vacations boating to the Lake of the Ozarks, and spending time with his granddaughters & brothers. In his spare time his favorite hobby was collecting old antique toys & train sets. He also enjoyed auctions, both live & online.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Warrenton, MO, the Shriners & Mason Lodge, which he actively participated in throughout his life.
Jim is survived by three daughters, Theresa (David) Gilmore, of Troy, Missouri; Kimberly Morris, of Centralia, Missouri; and Cassandra Overkamp, of St. Peters, Missouri; by three granddaughters, Peyton and Erica Gilmore and Olivia Morris; a niece, Tracy Pollard and three nephews, Tony, Travis and Terry Overkamp and special friend, Debbie Barr along with her granddaughter Abigail (Josh) McCammon and Abigail's son, Jonah. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harlan, Anthony and Steven Overkamp.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 19th from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann. A funeral mass will follow Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin's Church, Starkenburg, with Father Philip Niekamp officiating.
Burial will be at St Martin's Cemetery, Starkenburg, Missouri. Memorials may be given to St. Martin's Cemetery or Shriners Children's Hospital, St. Louis.
