Hazel Gerloff Obituary

Hazel Gerloff, 88, of Hermann, MO, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 13, 2021, at StoneBridge Senior Living with her husband of 69 years by her side.

Hazel was born at home in Big Spring, Missouri, on February 7, 1933, to Eddie & Dorothy Timmerberg.  In July of 1945, she joined the Big Spring United Methodist Church and was baptized.  Kenneth & Hazel were united in marriage at the same church on April 12, 1952, and Hazel played the organ there for 34 years.

Hazel loved music and was a talented musician.  She enjoyed playing the organ, piano, and accordion for friends and family.  She entertained residents at StoneBridge for many years by playing the accordion.

In her early years of marriage, Hazel worked in the office at the shoe factory in Hermann and later at the Div. of Family Services in Montgomery City.

Hazel is fondly remembered by her family and friends for her love of baking.  She especially loved baking cookies for anyone and everyone she knew.  She also enjoyed baking pies - coconut cream, pecan, or chocolate - for family gatherings and community and church events.  For all the years she was able, Hazel raised a large vegetable garden and enjoyed canning.  She also enjoyed sewing for her family and others.

Hazel is survived by her husband Kenneth; daughter Patricia Huddleston & husband Michael of West Chester, PA; son Kevin Gerloff & wife Cheryl of Warrenton, MO; daughter Gwen Huffman & husband John of Kirkwood, MO.  Hazel had 8 grandchildren, Matt Huddleston, Chelsea Huddleston, Jeremy Gerloff (deceased), Heather (Gerloff) Schertzer (deceased), Jesse Huffman, Laura (Huffman) Hettinga, Ian Huffman, & Micah Huffman, and 9 great grandchildren.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Wendell Timmerberg, and two grandchildren.

A visitation for Hazel will be held on Saturday, May 22, 1:00-4:00 at Hermann United Methodist Church followed by a memorial service at 4:00 with Rev. John Hampton officiating.  A light meal will be served following the service.
