Donald (Don) Simpson passed away peacefully in the late hours of October 2nd after a long battle with ALS. He was 71 years old.
Don was born on December 27, 1950 in Fort Worth, TX to Bob and Jeane Simpson. They moved to the Gulf Coast where they survived hurricanes and forged family bonds of steel. In 1966, the family relocated to St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Parkway Central Senior High School in June 1969. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1973.
Don began his career working for Bendy Engineering Company in St. Louis where he met his future wife, Carol Weber of Hermann, MO. The couple married on October 15, 1977. After their wedding, Carol and Don moved to Huntington, NY to start the next phase: Don’s career with Humbolt Wedag, Inc., an international engineering firm. He worked there more than 31 years, re-locating first to Omaha (where son Craig was born), then California, and finally Atlanta (where daughter Danielle completed the family).
Don was an intelligent man with a sarcastic sense of humor and an undying belief in the potential for humankind to be better, and work for a better world to leave to the future.
He traveled the world for work--from the chaotic streets of New Dehli to the remote tundra of the Northwest Territories to rainforests of Brazil and multiple trips to China. Despite his travels, his number one priority was always his family. His children and grandchildren were his greatest and proudest accomplishment. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who always showed his love and devotion.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years Carol Simpson, son Craig Simpson, his wife Lexi, their children Kate and Aaron, and daughter Danielle Pool, her husband, Chris and their new baby Theo. He also leaves behind his brother, Terry, his wife Jean Hamilton, nephews Jesse and Tyler, and cherished cousins Beth Engelhardt and Mary Phillips-Kalvitz, brother-in-law Ronald Weber, Pam, nephew Jake, wife Amber, niece Sara Veasmann and niece Alexa Reynolds, as well as thirteen beloved great nephews and great nieces. Don loved Family.
Preceded by his parents Bob and Jeane Simpson, in-laws Jerome and Laverne Weber, brother-in-law Dennis Weber, and his wife Ann. As well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents who passed this way before him.
Visitation will be held Monday October 24, 2022 from 10-11 am at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where a memorial service will follow 11:00. Graveside service at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the ALS Association, Georgia Chapter (5881 Glenridge Dr. Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30328) or online at https://secure2.convio.net/alsa/site/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app20095b?df_id=34502&34502.donation=form1
