Donald H. Schulte

Donald H. Schulte, 84, of Hermann, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Donald was born on November 18, 1941, in Berger, Missouri, the son of the late Harry and Louise (Bruening) Schulte. He was lovingly raised by the late Fred and Ella Steinbeck.

On June 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Judy (Sallaz) Schulte. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and faithfulness. They shared many happy years together until Judy's passing on July 11, 2000.

Donald proudly served as a member of the Hermann Volunteer Fire Department and dedicated 30 years of service to the City of Hermann. Above all, Donald treasured time with his family, especially his beloved wife, Judy, who was truly the love of his life. He found joy in life's simple pleasures, including trout fishing, browsing flea markets, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, and taking scenic drives through the countryside. Whether sharing stories, spending time with loved ones, or simply enjoying a quiet day, Donald had a way of making those around him feel welcome and cared for. His kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Sheila Witte and husband, Keith; his brother, Vernon Steinbeck and wife, Shirley; his sisters, Mary Ann Krull and Evelyn Kernen; his sister-in-law, Gladys Schulte; and his brother-in-law, Lloyd Rohlfing.

He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Erin Martin and husband, Ryan; Kristen Kleinheider and husband, Josh; and Chloe Witte and significant other, Cobey Funk.

Donald was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Harper Martin, Elliott Kleinheider, Lucy Kleinheider, and Landon Martin. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Louise Schulte, and by Fred and Ella Steinbeck; his sisters, Shirley Speckhals and husband, Louis "Dugan" Speckhals, and Georgia Ann Rohlfing; his brothers, James Schulte and Carroll Schulte and wife, Betty; his brother-in-laws, Kenneth Krull and Sidney Kernen; and his beloved wife, Judy Schulte.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m.

Burial will be private at Oak Haven Memorial Gardens.  Memorial donations may be given to The Jack Charles Schneider Foundation, Amanda Witthaus Scholarship or Angel of Hope.
