Charleen Haid Obituary

Charleen “Sis” Marie (Horstmann) Haid, 92, of Berger, Missouri, passed away, Friday, November 19, 2021 at StoneBridge Hermann.

Charleen was proud to be born in Hermann, Missouri, on November 28, 1928.  She was the daughter of Charles and Elda (Bopp) Horstmann.

She worked at International Shoe Company, graduated from Hermann High School in 1946, and was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.  She never forgot her confirmation verse, John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

Sis was the widow of Daniel V. “Junior” Haid, who preceded her in death on February 24, 1998.  They were united in marriage on December 6, 1947, in Berger, Missouri.  Sis and Junior enjoyed traveling in their RV, which was frequently accompanied by Earl and Delores Huxol or cousins in their RV's.

Since 2014, she enjoyed over 1,100 audio books from the Wolfner Talking Book and Braille Library.  She loved to reminisce about any subject; traveling, her childhood, family, friends, etc.  When she met someone new, she asked questions trying to find a connection to her or someone she knew.  However, what was most important to her was that her family was safe and healthy.  One of her favorite quotes to recite was, “That that is is.  That that is not is not.  Is that it?  It is.”

Sis is survived by one sister, Delores Huxol, of Hermann, and three children, Danny Haid (Becky), of Hermann, MO, Jon Haid of Columbia, MO, and Sheila Haid Wilson of Jefferson City, MO, three grandchildren, Daniel P. Haid (Bethany), Wes Haid (Emilie), and Kayla Wilson (Ty Luebbering); eight great-grandchildren, Daniel Henry, Elsa, Benjamin, Abraham, Clara, Millie, Karlie, and Jase; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dan “Junior”, her brother Burnell Horstmann, brother-in-law Earl Huxol, and son-in-law Steve Wilson.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday Nov. 23rd at 2:00p.m. at St. John’s Cemetery, Berger, Missouri.
