Carolyn M. Scheer, 94, of New Haven, MO, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at Mercy Hospital, Washington, Missouri.
Carolyn was born in Miami, Florida on November 28, 1929, the daughter of the late Rev. H.W. & Flora (Schwearmann) Niewald.
She was the widow of Vernon W. Scheer. They were united in marriage on April 23, 1955, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven. Vernon preceded her in death on February 16, 2013.
Carolyn was a stay at home mom for many years, raising their five children while her husband started to build a very successful business at Scheer Sales & Service in New Haven. When the kids were older she started working at the store with Vernon and continued working there until she was 90 years old.
Carolyn attended thousands of sporting events of her kids, grandkids and even great grandkids. She was the biggest Shamrock fan and enjoyed any sport from little league games to Shamrock softball, baseball, volleyball & basketball to college games. Carolyn enjoyed bowling in a league for many years and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
She was a faithful member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where her father served as pastor for many years. Her faith in God was very strong. She was a dedicated member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and a member and officer for Aid Association for Lutherans, now Thrivent. She helped cook apple butter for years and then was in charge of delivering it all over the New Haven community. She served the church in many ways. In more recent years you would find her on Saturday nights setting up cookies, coffee and juice for Sunday School the next morning and cutting bread for church dinners.
She was also active in the community. She was a member of the New Haven Planning & Zoning and served on the New Haven Park Board for 28 years and served 26 of those years as President.
Carolyn is survived by a son, David Scheer, of Union, Missouri; a daughter, Ruth Steinhoff & husband Ray, of New Haven, Missouri; a son, John Scheer & wife Sharon, of New Haven, Missouri; a son, Tim Scheer & wife Michele, of New Haven, Missouri; a son, Jim Scheer & wife Angie, of New Haven, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Nancy Niewald, of Springfield, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Larry Scheer & wife Carolyn, of New Haven, Missouri; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Carolyn's love and support for her family was unmatched.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Laura Elgert and three brothers, Don, Leonard & Earl Niewald.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 19th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven, with Rev. James Wilshusen officiating.
Burial will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
