Anna M. "Amy" Williams Obituary

Anna Marie "Amy" Williams, 93, of Hermann, MO, passed away Thursday, June 18th, 2020 at Hermann Area District Hospital. She was born in Morrison, MO to William H. & Flora K. (Hilgenstoehler) Peters. She was the widow of Donald O. "Don" Williams.

She was raised in Morrison in a time of civility and in a family of faith, love, kindness, humor and joy. Until her last breath she held fast to those values. Amy and Don met while she was working in St Louis and visiting her parents in Morrison and he was in the Navy in San Diego, on leave visiting his parents in Gasconade. Months later she took a train from Morrison to Yuma, AZ and he took a train from San Diego to Yuma and they married there on May 12th 1945. They lived in San Diego until his military discharge, at which time they moved to Morrison and then to Hermann. Don and Amy shared years of laughter and happiness before his death January 14th, 1993.

Amy enjoyed her coworkers and customers during her career at Hermann Produce Exchange. She was an active member of St. James United Church of Christ in Morrison, then St. Paul United Church of Christ in Hermann. She was extremely appreciative that she was able to be involved in church organizations such as Women’s Fellowship for so many years.

Amy was smart, strong, competitive, and a tireless worker. She gave generously, loved quickly, and laughed easily. She was blessed with rose colored glasses and refused to engage with anything that would diminish her joy for living and delight in others. She approached life with gratitude rather than with expectation or demand. She was fun. She was willing to try anything that might be interesting, and willing to do anything that would give those around her comfort or enjoyment. Amy cherished her time with family and good friends. She loved playing cards and the friends with whom she played brought her great happiness.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four sisters: an infant, Anita and Dorothy Peters, and Geneva (Jenny) Schowengerdt.

She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Huff & husband Steve of St Joseph, MO, and Leanne Williams of Rocheport, MO; two grandchildren, Belinda (Mike Oliver) Huff of Liberty, MO and Brian (Alma) Huff of Helena, MT; three great-granddaughters, Lily and Cora Long and soon-to-be Nala Huff; brother-in-law, Ernie Schowengerdt of Lake Ozark, MO. She is also survived by nieces and a nephew and their families. They too were held in her heart.

Her wish was that those who would be comforted by making a donation in her behalf do so either to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Hermann or to charities of their choice. C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Hermann, where a memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
