Harold Wayne Steiner, 65, of Hermann, MO, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Boone Hospital, Columbia, Missouri. He went home to be with God after Msgr. Higley came to the hospital and had given him the last sacrament.
Harold was born in Hermann, Missouri on October 28, 1952, a son of James & Cecilia (Jacquin) Steiner.
He was the husband of Mary Ann (Mundwiller) Steiner. They were united in marriage on September 14, 1974, in Hermann, Missouri. Mary survives at their home.
Harold is also survived by his mother, Cecilia Steiner-Weidman, of Hermann; by a daughter, Shawn Groppe & husband Bob, of Hermann; by two sons, Joel Steiner, of Hermann; and Ben Steiner & wife Jeanette, of Hermann; by his five grandchildren, Dannyelle, Brock, & Marissa Groppe, and Reid & Quinn Steiner; by six brothers, Leo Steiner & wife Nina, of Wright City, Missouri; James Steiner & wife Karen, of Warrenton, Missouri; Cecil Steiner & wife Rosemarie, of Hermann, Missouri; Carl Steiner, of Jefferson City, Missouri; Fred Steiner & wife Betty, of Hawaii; and John Steiner & wife Kim, of Gasconade, Missouri; by five brothers-in-law; Ed, Joe, Mike, Phil, and Paul Mundwiller and four sisters-in-law; Rosie, Joan, Mary and Danyee Mundwiller, and by many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. George Church, Hermann, the VFW Post 4182, and the Knights of Columbus, where he served as a 4th degree Knight. He worked as a corrections officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections, until retirement. After retirement he worked part time for Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home & Adam Putchta Winery.
Harold was a man with a playful and fun spirit and he had a huge heart. He gave of his time often to help out anyone that needed him to do a job or lend a helping hand. He was a family man that loved his family dearly and always loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann .
A funeral mass will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Church, Hermann, with Rev. Msgr. Gregory Higley & Father Edmund Mundwiller officiating.
Burial will be at Apprill-Mundwiller Cemetery, Hermann, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hermann Area Crusade Against Cancer, St. George Church or Hermann VFW. C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
