Byrnell W. Figler, 90, of Lee's Summit, MO, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at St. Luke's East Hospital, Lee's Summit, Missouri
Byrnell was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 9, 1927, a son of the late Benjamin S. & Cora M. (Schneider) Figler.
Byrnell was a graduate of Affton High School. He then attended St. Louis Institute of Music and went on to study at the University of Illinois. During that time under the Fulbright grant he studied at the Bavarian State Music Academy in Munich, Germany.
After graduating he taught in many schools in St. Louis, Spokane, Washington, the University of Illinois, and Alabama University. He also was the associate professor of music at Fort Hays State, Hays, Kansas for 20 years. Byrnell was a classic pianist. He was life time member of the Sierra Club and of the Nature Conservancy.
Byrnell is survived by a brother, Don Figler, of St. Louis, Missouri.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Lee's Summit, Missouri, and on Sunday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Zion-St. Paul's U.C.C., Bay, Missouri.
