Betty Lea Miles

Betty Lea Miles passed away quietly on January 3, 2019 at Victorian Place, Hermann, Missouri.

Betty was born on May 31, 1940 to E. Garrett and Thelma Nadine (Laughlin) Miles in El Reno, Oklahoma, where she spent her childhood.   She graduated from El Reno High School in 1958.  She then later graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women, now the University of Science and Arts Oklahoma, in Chickasha, Oklahoma with a degree in Business.  She taught high school in Garden City, Kansas and Jennings, Missouri for many years before retiring in Watertown, New York.  Just recently, Betty had returned to Hermann, Missouri to be closer to family and friends. 

Betty was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Fred and Lea Laughlin and paternal grandparents, Elijah Garrett and Betty Lou Miles; by her parents and her infant brother John Robert; and by her step-mother, Lois Stone Miles.  

Betty is survived by her brother Garrett F. “Bud” Miles and his wife Julie, of Norman, Oklahoma, his niece Andrea Miles of Arlington, Virginia, and her nephew Brandon Miles of Dallas, Texas.  Betty’s life was wonderfully enriched by her many friends in Watertown, and she was especially blessed by the kindness of Sandra Creacy and her extended family in Missouri.  

At Betty’s request, a private burial will take place in El Reno.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hermann Area Crusade Against Cancer.  C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
