Lorena "Jane" Peters Obituary

Lorena “Jane” Peters was born January 10, 1934, to Clyde and Lucille (Tuncil) Kuhn in Arrow Rock, Missouri. She became the eldest of a group of seven siblings. Her father, working for the Army Corps of Engineers on the Missouri River, relocated the family to Gasconade. The family took roots, and Jane attended grade school in Gasconade and graduated from Hermann High School with the Class of 1952.

Jane met the love of her life in elementary school. They continued to be sweethearts in high school, and in the Spring of her graduation year, she married Harold Peters. Together they went to the University of Missouri, Columbia where Harold studied Civil Engineering, and Jane worked as a secretary at the University library. She became a military wife after Harold’s graduation and commissioning as a US Air Force officer. They began the nomadic life of a military family, living at bases in Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, and California. Jane served alongside Harold by supporting his career and keeping the home and family on track. After 22 years, they retired in Texas, but soon realized Hermann is where they belonged. They built a house in the woods near Hermann in 1991.

Jane loved nature. She loved to watch birds and critters of all kinds. She loved being outside working with her flowers and plants. Sometime, during her travels, she was known to pilfer a seed or sprig from a plant she saw and liked, so she could get home and start her own. She collected little odds and ends from flowers and gifts she received. She loved visits with family and friends. She saved special cards, photos, and letters, and on them, she would write little notes back to the sender before she ultimately tucked them away.

Early in their nearly 72 year-long marriage, Jane and Harold welcomed three daughters, Debbie, Diana, and Libbee. They later welcomed respective husbands, Garry Beckham, David Beckham, and Greg Bartlett. The family grew to include eight grandchildren, Leah, Eric, Jill, Billy, Jessica, Allen, Lisa, and Amy, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, all surviving Jane. Jane is also survived by her beloved husband Harold, two sisters, Ann Calvert of Brunswick, MO and Jeanne Kuhn of Gasconade, brother Bill Kuhn and wife Marilyn of Hermann, sister-in-law Marjorie Kuhn of Gasconade, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lucille Kuhn, brother Joseph (JD) Kuhn, sister Clydine Hensley and brother Clyde, Jr.
