Velten  E.  Rohlfing, 89, of Hermann, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, Columbia, Missouri.

Mr. Rohlfing was born in Hermann, Missouri on January 22, 1925, the son of the late John P. and Irma (Mueller) Rohlfing.

Velten was married to Dorothea (Faes) Rohlfing on September 26, 1947.  She preceded him in death on December 16, 1985.  He later married Marilyn (Koeller) Rohlfing.  They were married September 9, 1989.  Marilyn survives in Hermann.

Velten is also survived by his children, Debra K. Maxwell & husband William of Springfield, Missouri, Marilyn Denise Roche & husband John of Columbia, Missouri and  Tom Wayne Rohlfing & wife Tobey of Overland Park, Kansas, by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, in Hermann, the Hermann V.F.W. Post 4182, Hermann Lions Club, International Union of Brick Layers, Allied Craft Workers and the Wurstjaegers.  He was a former member of the Hermann Jaycees, the Park Board and was a committee member of the Boy Scout Troop 116.   Velten was the kind of man that always had a smile and a laugh.  He loved to make others laugh and as a result he had more than his share of friends.

Velten was a Brick Mason and a masonry contractor. He worked for his father until he started his own business, R & B Masonry.  He owned that until retirement at age 68 but enjoyed working on brick and stone projects for friends and family, last helping lay bricks on his grandson Johnny's house at age 83.
