Leland Scheer Unger, 80, of New Haven, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his home.
Leland was born in New Haven, Missouri on July 8, 1936, a son of the late Herman & Paula (Scheer) Unger.
He was the husband of Viola (Walkenhorst) Unger. They were married on July 8, 1961, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven.
Leland was in the U.S. Army reserves from 1958-1959. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church New Haven, and served on the Church Board of Elders for many years.
Leland was a dairy farmer for many years. After retirement he went to work for Purina Farms for 20 years.
Leland was a man who always wanted to help out a friend or anyone that needed it. He spent a lot of time with his close friend and neighbor Joe Ronhausen and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going into to Casey's for coffee and conversation, going to auctions and fishing.
Leland is survived by his wife Viola of the home, by his children, Lisa Hanks & husband Paul, of Columbia, Missouri; Randy Unger & wife Sherri, of New Haven, Missouri; Sara Herbert & fiance' Eric Saavedra, of Washington, Missouri; Amy Habjan & husband Kevin, of Fulton, Missouri; and David Unger, of New Haven, Missouri, and by 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a sister Carlyn Unger and a brother and sister in infancy.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 17th from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven, with Pastor Mark Goucher and Rev. William Zastrow officiating.
Burial will be at New Haven Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Glioblastoma Research.
