John Edward Waters, Jr. was born to John Edward Waters and Elcie Nettie (Wright) Waters on September 6, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri. John entered into eternal rest on December 15, 2014 at the age of 71.  His body is to be cremated and interned at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.  

John attended school in Kirkwood, MO, East St. Louis, IL and St. Louis, MO. Following his elementary education John entered O'Fallon Technical High School in 1958 and graduated from Auto Mechanics in 1962.  
Following high school he enlisted in the United States Marines with boot camp at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was assigned to the Third Marine Division (tank battalion) and worked in the message center.  John was sent to Okinawa and then served as a Corporal in Viet Nam.  He received commendations for bravery and an honorable discharge in 1966. 

John was united in marriage to Cynthia (Moore) Waters on June 29, 1968 at the United Methodist Church, Kirkwood, MO. They started life in Winchester, MO where they lived for 12 years. 

John was employed as a tool and die maker in Kirkwood until moving to Hermann, MO in 1979. He worked as a foreman in a toy factory and started as a manager for a commercial laundry in New Haven. In 1992 he accepted a position as Laundry Manager in the Missouri Eastern Correctional in Pacific, MO from which he retired in 2011. 

John loved hunting, collecting guns, sharing information with others of a like interest and taught young people about gun safety for many years. He was especially proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them on vacations. 

Those left to honor John's memory include his loving wife of 46 years, Cindy, of Hermann, children Jeannine (John) Moroney of Union, MO; John E. Waters, III of Washington, MO. Grandchildren are Patrick, Caitlin, and Natalie Moroney and Hannah Waters. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Guin (Moore) Yoest and husband Dan and his lifelong friend Ed Clayton and wife Maggie, cousins, nieces, and friends. 
John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Eugene R. Ferguson. 

A Memorial Service for John will be held on Sunday, December 28th at 2:00 p.m., at Toedtmann and Grosse Funeral Home, reception to follow at 215 Market Street, Hermann. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hermann Area Crusade Against Cancer, Hermann Area District Hospital or Hermann Rod and Gun Club.  C/O Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home.
