Charles William McKernan, 79, of New Haven, MO, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at New Haven Care Center.

Charles was born in Whiting, Iowa on July 22, 1937, a son of the late William & Margaret (Nichols) McKernan.

He was the widower of Theresa A. (West) McKernan.  They were married on November 19, 1991, in Berger, Missouri.   She preceded him in death on March 28, 2015.

Charles is survived by a daughter, Lorrie Smith, of New Haven, Missouri; and a son Phillip McKernan & wife Cheryl, of New Haven, Missouri, by nine grandchildren  and five great grandchildren.   He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Kathryn Ann (Menke) McKernan, his second wife Theresa, and a son David McKernan.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He was a member of the Washington Elks and a 50 year member of New Haven American Legion.  He worked for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis.  After that he owned Hill Top Lounge in New Haven.  He also drove a truck for Kallmeyer Brothers Trucking in Hermann.

A memorial visitation will be held Friday, January 20th from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven, where memorial services will follow at 11:30 a.m.   Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery, New Haven, with full military honors.
